Mothers’ Union

The Giggleswick and Settle Branch of the Mothers’ Union meet on the second Wednesday of each month – 2pm.  Meetings move between St Alkelda’s, Holy Ascension and Limestone View.

Vision Statement

Through the love of God and in partnership with the Church,
we seek to reach out creatively and actively
to support stable family relationships
and to promote a more just society.

Our members meet to share fellowship, fun and faith. Through prayer, projects, campaigns and fundraising we respond to needs, reaching out to support family life in all its forms. Here’s just a few of the things that the Giggleswick and Settle Branch of the Mothers’ Union are involved in:

Monthly meetings – The meeting begins with a welcome from the Branch Leader, followed by a summary of any news from the diocese or other branches. Then there may be a presentation given by a guest speaker. (We’ve had quite a diverse variety over the past year!)  We always end with coffee cake and fellowship.

Wave of Prayer – each diocese is given a set day to pray for other dioceses, and within each diocese each branch is given a specific time to pray. This gives to members a sense of unity in prayer for one another as the wave of prayer moves from branch to branch and from diocese to diocese.

Fundraising – Mothers’ Union is a registered charity and the branch in Giggleswick play an important part in raising funds for good causes that support the MU Vision. Funds are raised in a variety of projects over the year.

Community outreach – Mothers’ Union members live and work in the local community and are actively involved in some of the community projects arranged around town, such as serving hot drinks and hot cross buns following the Journey to the Cross in Settle each year.

Stepping Stones – Members of the Mothers’ Union are instrumental in running the Stepping Stones (0-4 year olds with their carers) gathering that takes place at Holy Ascension Church in Settle each Thursday during term time. Click here for further information.

The Mothers’ Union Prayer

Loving Lord,
We thank you for your love so freely given to us all.
We pray for families around the world.
Bless the work of the Mothers’ Union
as we seek to share your love
through the encouragement,
strengthening and support of marriage and family life.
Empowered by your Spirit,
may we be united in prayer and worship,
and in love and service reach out
as your hands across the world.
In Jesus’ name.
