Settle Graveyard Tours

The Family History Group of Settle District U3A, under the leadership of Sarah Lister, has carried out extensive research into all the burials since 1839. Their researches have revealed some fascinating facts about the lives of local families over the last two centuries, including one of the sadder aspects of 19th century life – the high infant mortality rate.

Settle Graveyard project will be running their popular graveyard tours again this year, subject to restrictions.  Each week over the summer holidays there will be a graveyard tour. Each one will focus on a different theme such as ‘intrepid explorers’, ‘local lasses’, ‘men behaving badly’ or ‘Settle superstars’.  They are fun and interactive and suitable for the whole family. They are outside but will be inside the church in the case of bad weather.

The tours will follow government Covid advice, which limits the number of attendees so book early.
Each tour will run twice, on Wednesdays at 7pm and Sundays at 2:30pm
ENTRY IS BY TICKET ONLY, available in advance from the Folly (
Tickets cost £3.00. Proceeds will go to the local charities that have supported this project.
Tours last about 75 minutes. Refreshments available afterwards.
