Jesus is stripped of his clothes

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
Because, by your holy cross,
you have redeemed the world

Reading
They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on his head. They put a reed in his right hand and knelt before him and mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.  After mocking him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him. (Matthew 27:28-31)

Meditation
The journey was over – they had arrived at last at the place of execution. First they stripped Jesus of his clothing, and so he ended as his life as he begun it – with nothing.

We have clothing and enough food, and many other comforts which we rightly enjoy, but we must not become so involved with the things of this world that we lose sight of what really matters. We must keep our sight firmly fixed on God, and be ready to accept whatever comes to us in his name – even to being left with nothing.

Lord Jesus,
you have given us everything we have.
Lord, have mercy
Christ have mercy

Lord Jesus,
you gave your whole life for us.
Lord, have mercy
Christ have mercy

Lord Jesus,
help us to give our lives in your service.
Lord, have mercy
Christ have mercy

Holy God
Holy Mighty One
Holy Immortal One
have mercy on us and on the whole world.
